Storyline: Drishyam The Conclusion (unofficially known as Drishyam 3) starts off six months after the previous film Drishyam 2 ends. Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn), his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) and two daughters Anju (Ishita Dutta) and Anu (Mrunal Jadhav) have moved on in their lives in Goa but they are well aware of the impending danger. They know that Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) and her husband Mahesh Deshmukh (Rajat Kapoor) are still vying for justice for their dead son Sameer aka Sam (Rishab Chadha). And that is exactly what the couple is thinking.
SP (Superintendent of Police) Rajveer Singh Tomar (Jaideep Ahlawat) is brought in to reopen the case of Sam’s death. He gets full support from the cop Gaitonde (Kamlesh Sawant), who had to face humiliation along with the Goa police earlier. Tomar lays his hands on something that can nab Vijay and his family. To make matters more difficult for the family, Meera gets the famous and ruthless lawyer Indrajit Shetty (Prakash Raj) onboard to fight the case.
Review: The first two Hindi Drishyam films were proper remakes of the first two original Malayalam films. The third Malayalam film Drishyam 3, however, didn’t turn out to be that impressive. Thankfully, Drishyam The Conclusion is completely different from the third original Malayalam.
The second Drishyam, in both the languages, followed a pattern where Vijay and his family are living peacefully but things start getting serious for them once the cops find something to reopen the case. This was followed by a gripping and exciting second half. Drishyam The Conclusion was somewhere expected to follow the same but it doesn’t. Hence, it won’t be wrong to say that Drishyam The Conclusion is hardly a remake and more of an original film.
This time, the film gets moving onto the crime angle right from the start. The narrative doesn’t give any footage to Vijay and his family living about their lives and gets straight onto the business mode. The script keeps you hooked in a natural way without trying anything fancy. The points brought in to reopen Sam’s case are organic and so is the inclusion of the two new characters. The interval block is exciting.
The narrative goes onto another level in the second half with the courtroom scenes keeping you all hooked. The gimmick in the pre-climax and the revelation in the climax is when the film peaks the highest.
The only minus point here is how an admin of a What’s App Group is never traced by the cops. This could have been an important point in the film.
Sudhir K Chaudhary’s camerawork is simple yet effective. Amar Mohile shines once again with the background score, which adds to the thrill. Sandeep Francis’ editing is also on the positive side.
When it comes to the ensemble cast, Ajay Devgn once again displays his vast talent. He underplays his reactions and speaks a lot with his expressions. Tabu also comes up with a restraint but intense act. Jaideep Ahlawat is highly impressive as a determined SP. Prakash Raj also puts in his right foot forward and provides a mature performance.
Samvedna Suwalka, who plays Vijay’s lawyer Gayatri Mohan, matches up to performers like Prakash Raj, Devgn and others in the courtroom scenes by being natural. Kamlesh Sawant is given more to do this time, going by his popularity. He is entertaining. Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav chip in with decent supporting acts. Ajeet Singh, as Raghu Nayak, and Ramchandra Singh, as Savio D’Souza, do well too in key supporting roles. Sauabh Shukla is memorable in a cameo.
Overall: Drishyam The Conclusion is fitting and thrilling end to the franchise. It is the best from all the three Hindi films from this series.
